Tool Sharpening & Maintenance - 1 Day, Sunday 25th May 2025, 10.00am to 5.30pm
Do you have an interest in woodcraft but haven’t yet mastered the skills to produce a keen edge on your tools? If this is the case this workshop will improve your woodcraft allowing you to progress and improve your skills.
No matter which form of woodcraft you enjoy if your tools aren’t sharp the task at hand can be close to impossible, causing a great deal of frustration and disappointment. When using tools that are sharpened to a high standard cutting should be effortless allowing greater control with the tool, making your working time easier, safer and more enjoyable.
This one-day workshop can enable you to sharpen woodwork, green woodwork and woodcarving tools. First of all, you will learn how to sharpen a carpenter’s chisel, woodcarving gouge and straight knife, with plenty more aspects of sharpening covered throughout the rest of the day. all tools and equipment are supplied, but you are also welcome to bring along your own tools and sharpening equipment, no matter their condition.
This course is suited to all levels including complete beginners. As you will be working in a workshop environment, sturdy footwear is important. A good pair of boots is ideal and if you happen to have steel toe caps this would be even better. Open-toed or low-cut footwear is not suitable and may mean you cannot participate in the workshop. The tutor will supply safety gloves but if you have your own tight-fitting safety gloves feel free to bring them along, these safety measures are to protect your hands and feet from cuts and to protect your feet from sharp and heavy tools and equipment being dropped. You must be aged 16 or over to attend this class. All tools and materials are supplied. Workshop times are 10.00am to 5.30pm.
The workshop will be held at the Green Woodwork Ireland Workshop, Minnowburn. Workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable.
