Woodcarving classes for the general public are held outside of my workshop space, in Arts Centres, Community Centres, etc. Links to upcoming workshops are listed below, along with information on the workshops available. Please note all bookings need to be made with the centre hosting the workshop, not with Green Woodwork Ireland:

Introduction to Woodcarving at The Burnavon, Cookstown, Sat 4th Feb.

Woodcarving classes can be organised for private groups and community organisations, etc, on request. These can take place in my own workshop space, or a location of your choosing. If you would like more information, a quotation or would like to make a booking please feel free to get in touch.

The Introduction to Woodcarving Workshop (featured in the first 4 photos) is ideal for people that just want to try something new, and there is also a Woodcarving: The Next Step Workshop and Letters in Wood: Lettercarving Workshop (featured in the 5th photo) for those that want to take their skills to the next level. All tools and materials are supplied. These courses are suited to all levels, including complete beginners. Due to the use of sharp tools during the class, sturdy boots or shoes should be worn. Information for each workshop is listed at the bottom of the page.

Introduction to Woodcarving

Have you ever appreciated the beauty and flowing lines of a woodcarving and thought this something you would like to try? A woodcarving class with Stephen Ryan from Green Woodwork Ireland will teach you the skills needed to produce a woodcarving of your own to take home and enjoy. You will also learn about different woods and their properties. Find out about the different types of woodcarvings there are. Learn about the many shapes and sizes of woodcarving chisels and how to use them safely and effectively. This class is ideal for people that just want to try something new along with those that want to take their new found skills to the next level. No experience necessary. The tutor will provide four different woodcarvings to choose from. Due to the use of sharp tools during the class sturdy boots or shoes should be worn.

Woodcarving: The Next Step

Woodcarving is creative, fun and accessible to people of all ages. This traditional woodcarving class is suitable for both beginners and improvers. During this class, Stephen Ryan from Green Woodwork Ireland will teach you a large variety of woodcarving techniques, along with mastering the skills needed use to many different types of woodcarving chisels safely and effectively. You will also produce woodcarvings of your own to take home. Feel free to bring along your own woodcarving ideas, alternatively, the tutor will supply plenty of ideas to choose from. If you wish you can return to this class time after time to further hone your skills. All tools and materials supplied. No experience necessary. Due to the use of sharp tools during this class sturdy boots or shoes should be worn.

Letters in Wood: Letter carving Workshop

This Letter Carving workshop is suitable for both beginners and improvers. During the class Stephen Ryan from Green Woodwork Ireland will teach you the skills needed to carve letters in a number of different styles, along with mastering the skills needed use to many different types of woodcarving chisels safely and effectively. In keeping with the craft theme of this workshop each participant will carve the word craft, with each letter being carved in a different way. No experience necessary. All tools and materials are supplied, but if you have woodcarving tools that you would like to bring along, please do so. Due to the use of sharp tools during this class sturdy boots or shoes should be worn.
